See the best Christmas Markets of the Danube with Avalon Waterways

Join me to see some of Europe’s very best Christmas markets in early December 2024. There’s space on this one, but it is going Quickly. I’m partnering with Avalon Waterways: they’re not as well-known as Viking, but I’ve cruised with them, and they have a better product on the river—bigger rooms, beautiful decor, great food, more inclusions. I just wrapped up a Danube cruise with them and cannot wait to go again! And the Christmas markets are one of my very favorite European experiences. This will be an amazing trip.

The dates: December 2-8, 2024, from Nürnberg to Vienna. Our cruise on the Avalon Illumination will spend a full day in Nürnberg before stopping in Regensburg, Passau, Linz (from which you can go to Salzburg or Csesky Krumlov), Melk and the Wachau Valley, and Vienna. Pricing from $4100 pp, not incl. air, for the signature ‘panorama suite,’ which is their standard stateroom (lower deck cabins price lower—but I highly recommend the panorama suite). For more info, see here for a downloadable, shareable flyer. Contact me for more info, to get signed up.

Vienna is worth special mention: it’s my favorite city in Europe, and presents more Christmas markets than you’ll have time to visit. Just amazing. It’s also possible to add pre- or post-cruise stays there or elsewhere (Prague or Budapest, anyone?).

This cruise is open to book today! Book early to reserve the cabin you want. [I’ve just sailed on a sister/twin ship to ours and know where the best spots are.] Email me to get started, ask questions, or offer tributes.

The standard Avalon panorama suites make up the vast majority of the ship’s staterooms. Instead of wasting space with a too-small balcony, the outside wall is mostly floor-to-ceiling sliders, 2/3 of which open up—so the whole room is a balcony. You’re right on the river. [Shown: Avalon Envision.]

JUNE 2023: Germany and Austria

Salzburg’s old town, seen from across the river.

I’ve just returned from this trip, and it was AMAZING. I worked with Austrian travel partner Mondial on this custom, private small group trip through the best of Austria and Germany. I picked the hotels, itinerary, and experiences that I wanted my travelers to experience, and they agreed it was the trip of a lifetime. We stopped in Vienna, Salzburg, Oberammergau, and Munich, seeing castles, mountains, lakes, quaint towns, imperial cities, and a stray Sound Of Music sight or two.

That’s trip’s done, but do you have a group for which you’d like to plan something similar? Email me to get started.

Vienna’s imperial Hofburg Palace is one of several castles guests visited.

Our Trips

Rediscover Europe trips are for active, non-grumpy, non-whiny adults who want to experience Europe, getting beyond the guidebooks’ recommendations to find the best of what these destinations have to offer—the food, sights, nature, culture, shopping, and more—and do so with guidance from someone who speaks the language and knows where to go and what to see, where to shop and what (and where) to eat. Contact me for more information or to join us for one of our trips.

And if you’ve got a group, I’d love to help you plan a trip for it! Have an affinity group/friends/family/harem you’d like to arrange an escorted trip for? Call me at 682/207-7704.
